A storage server is a type of server that is used to store, access, secure and manage digital data, files and services. It is a purpose built server used for storing and accessing small to large amount of data over a shared network or through the Internet. A storage server is typically less powerful than a standard server, but has more storage space, storage access interfaces and specialized data retrieval and management utilities. A storage server generally serves as a central point of access for data storage and access.

It can be used for routine or frequently used data storage and access, or it can serve as a backup server for storing backup data. A storage server is an integral part of direct attached storage DAS , network attached storage NAS and other storage networking technologies.

It ensures better collaboration, transparency, efficiency, and innovation in its solutions. It also reduces barriers to communication and gives you access to a wider audience, including customers and contractors. These are the essential differences between cloud storage and cloud computing systems.

Cloud Storage When the average person first thinks about cloud storage, they will likely think about storing files, example: songs, videos, and applications on a remote server to be retrieved from multiple devices any time he or she needs them. Cloud Computing You use cloud storage to save and keep data. Some distinguishing factors between cloud storage and cloud computing include: Cloud computing requires higher processing power than cloud storage.

Cloud storage, on the other hand, needs more storage space. Cloud computing is essentially targeted towards businesses.

Cloud storage, on the other hand, is utilized both for professional and personal reasons. Storage servers are also known as File servers.

The primary intention of such servers is storage of computer files like photographs, wave files, movies and so on. A file server does not perform computational tasks or run programs for the client. The server is designed round the client-server scheme, where the clients are the workstation using the storage. There are two types of storage servers: dedicated and non-dedicated servers. A dedicated server is designed for exclusive usage as a file server with workstations specific for reading and writing files and databases.

Storage of data files is achieved by forming a disk array. The technology is developed to operate multiple disk drives together as a unit. A disk array has a cache faster than a magnetic disk as well as advanced storage visualization and RAID.

The type of disk array used is dependent on the storage network. If the network configuration is done precisely, permission to all computers is granted to create, modify and execute files directly from the server whilst adding extra shared storage space to each connected computer. Keeping in mind the storage space, access speed, ease of administration, budget, recoverability and security, storage servers are designed. Design sophistication is further increased by the constant changing environment with addition of new hardware and technology replacing the old ones, while maintaining the same compatibility and accessibility.
